About Dorland Mountain Arts Colony

Dorland Mountain Arts Colony is a non-profit artists community set on 300 acres along a ridge overlooking the Temecula Valley. The colony covers about 10 acres with the rest of the land left in its natural state.

In May, 2004, a wildfire swept through Dorland Mountain Arts Colony, destroying all ten buildings. Plans to rebuild are moving forward.

Mission

The mission of Dorland Mountain Arts Colony is to provide a unique working and performance retreat fostering creativity, and a community connection to the creative process, in a secluded natural setting.

Programs

As Dorland rebuilds, art programs, Open Studio events, and community outreach will continue off-site in various locations throughout the Temecula Valley.

Dorland has provided a series of quarterly, six-week drawing and painting workshops for at-risk teenagers. Robert Willis, watercolor artist and Dorland caretaker for the past twelve years, has instructed these classes, as well as Andrew Davis, former Dorland Resident.

Poetry and writers workshops are planned for young adults. Future project ideas include workshop participants setting their words to music and performing them, or hearing them performed, in a public concert setting.

Open Studio events, featuring former Dorland residents, and other local, regional, national, and international artists, are planned throughout each year. Programming plans include chamber and jazz ensembles in concert, a benefit concert featuring legendary artist Mason Williams, readings from original manuscripts, art walks, and a variety of performances by talented young musicians.
